This seems like a simple snapshot of a farm, but I’m so happy to see this today. On August last year, this field, located in Calumpit, Bulacan, was all covered with water. I worked on a short documentary about a farmer here who shared their plight after heavy floods destroyed their crops. I paid them a visit today just to have a chat and see how they’ve been coping.
You wouldn’t believe, but it is the same land as the photo below:
See that hut over there?
This is how it looked like last August:
After the water subsided, I went back to Calumpit to document the aftermath, and here’s another screengrab of the fields:
By the end of the docu, I said something about wishing for kinder skies “to bless them the harvest they’ve been yearning for”. And yes, they did manage to recover from their losses last February (harvest season). They even gave me some of their harvested rice to take home and told me I’m welcome to stay with them for a few days if I want to.
Such kindness will always be remembered. I can’t wait to go back and see their next harvest!
